ConsorzioAs you go north from the Borromean Gulf towards the Swiss part of Lake Maggiore, you will see two rocky islets close to the shore, further testimony to the historical presence of the Borromeo family in this area.
These two little islands still bear the picturesque remains of a castle, the Rocca Vitaliana, built between 1519 and 1521 by Ludovico Borromeo and called after his ancestor Count Vitaliano.
The two islets have the allure of all ruined castles, which is enhanced by seeing them close up from a boat.
